What a excellent way to engage our youth. I wish I would of thought of it first.
Tracey, Dept. of Children & Family Services, Chicago, Illinois
I enjoyed learning about how Hip-Hop music and therapy concepts relate. It makes a lot of since. I can't wait to learn more.
Samuel, Univ. of Southern California, Los Angeles, California
It is a wonderful way to connect with high risk youth who enjoy the music and culture. I am glad that the approach is being used, especially for youth of color.
Cheryl, Dept. of Juvenile Probation, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
A very unique approach to helping young people and the people that work with them.
Stacey, Dept of Children & Family Services, Las Vegas, Nevada

The Hip-Hop Therapist ™ has recognized how in the last 30
years that Hip-Hop music and culture has become a pervasive
part of the global mainstream society. Hip-Hop is mostly
known for its poetic and musical formation. It chronicles the
lives of youth and their life experiences of street reality,
violence, anger, frustration, ambition, aspiration, and
rebellion. It also mirrors the lives of many who are fighting
against societal norms – while using Hip-Hop as a medium to
express themselves creatively via rap, dance, spoken word,
fashion, entrepreneurism, education, journalism, politics, and
now - counseling. Additionally, represented by youth, youth
culture, and/or a youthful spirit - Hip-Hop has chronicled the
lives of those who are oppressed and disenfranchised from the
traditional adaptations of life, and are looking to make their
own way out of no way.
The need to be free from society's oppressive norms - makes
Hip-Hop a vital construct in urban environments all over the
world. Represented by youth, youth culture, and the youthful
spirit - Hip-Hop has often chronicled the lives of those who are
oppressed and disenfranchised from the traditional adaptations
of life. Furthermore, whether raw, edgy, misogynistic, violent,
sexist, political, racist, etc. - their life experiences, behaviors,
attitudes, and viewpoints are relevant to explore when it comes
to facilitating healing and educational interventions. So why
not use Hip-Hop as a intervention to address ones social,
emotional, and behavioral life circumstances and struggles?
