Established in 2004 by the Hip-Hop Therapist™, Nakeyshaey M. Allen, the Hip-
Hop Therapy Project (HHTP) was developed to engage, educate, heal, understand,
and unite those who most embrace and embody Hip-Hop music and culture. This
program model was used to successfully engage hundreds of youth and young adults
in psycho-therapeutic and educational interventions in Wisconsin, Illinois, and
California. Additionally, the model was shared with thousands of helping
professionals (i.e. social workers, therapists, teachers, police officers, gang
interventionists, and youth counselors) throughout the United States and abroad
during trainings, workshops, and conference presentations - emphasizing how to use
Hip-Hop music and culture to engage today's youth in REAL interventions that have
a positive impact on their attitude and behaviors.
Throughout her travels and professional endeavors around the world, Nakeyshaey
has had the opportunity to witness the positive effects that some aspects of Hip-Hop
music and culture has held on today's youth and their communities. It is those
aspects of Hip-Hop that have helped to inspire the development of countless Hip-Hop
and youth oriented programs and services around the world, and Nakeyshaey has had
a hand in the development of many of them. It is through this development work that
Nakeyshaey and her team have identified the need for more support and resources for
more Hip-Hop orientated educational and therapeutic programs and services,
particularly those programs and services that thrive off of the shear passion,
community, and grass roots of Hip-Hop, as well as have a desire to create and
maintain long term - sustainable objectives in the communities that they serve. That
is why, as the Founder and CEO of the HHTP, Nakeyshaey and her partners have re-
organized the HHTP and re-named it to "The Hip-Hop Therapy Foundation
(THHTF)". THHTF is a private non-profit, 501(c) 3, foundation that supports non-
profit organizations across the globe that utilize aspects of Hip-Hop music and culture
in their youth and community programming.
